The City of Courtenay will be installing traffic calming curb extensions, along with sidewalk realignments at the intersection of 5th Street with Woods and Stewart Avenues.

Bike lanes will also be included as part of this work.

Work is scheduled to take place from August 12-23, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., weather permitting.

During construction the intersection will have single lane alternating traffic during working hours.

Local traffic will be able to enter and exit the area and access their properties.

Traffic control personnel will be on site to direct vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists within the work area.

The goal of the project is to introduce road and pedestrian safety improvements along the corridor through the addition of Council approved Active Transportation Facilities.

The project is approved for funding support of up to 50% through the BC Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant.

For any questions regarding this project, residents are asked to please contact Operational Services, City of Courtenay at (250) 338-1525 or email operations@courtenay.ca.
