British Columbia has sent a team of firefighters to assist in the Los Angeles area.

The federal government is coordinating efforts with the provinces to deploy resources - Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan said on social media Sunday that 60 firefighters from BC and Alberta are being deployed as soon as today and teams are working to identify and prepare more resources to send over in the days ahead.

BC’s Forests Minister said on Saturday that a crew from the province had headed down on Saturday to assist, but didn’t say exactly how many firefighters were in that group.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also shared video footage of a Canadian aerial firefighting aircraft preparing to take another pass over the wildfires, saying Canada is "always here to help our American friends."

Officials say at least 24 people are confirmed to have died because of the fires with others still unaccounted for.

Evacuation orders remain in effect for more than 100-thousand people with thousands of others being told to get ready to flee if things deteriorate.

Winds eased last week but are picking up once again.
