BC Highway Patrol has launched this year’s Light Up the Province campaign with extra police officers primed and ready, and working alongside police agencies around BC, to get impaired drivers off the roads and help you get home safely.
It’s all part of the Winter Impaired Driving Campaign for the month of December, and it launched this weekend.
Superintendent Mike Coyle with BC Highway Patrol says the statistics are clear: People who choose to drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol are the leading cause of criminal death and injury in Canada, and they are working to get those people off the road.
Road users around Vancouver Island and the rest of BC can expect to see extra roadblocks throughout December, and everyone is encouraged to plan a safe ride home.
BC Highway Patrol is also suggesting we have conversations with our children, and people we know who might otherwise drive impaired, about making good choices.
