BC Hydro has issued a public safety notice and asks the public to stay away from the upstream side of Elk Falls as it begins its annual fish migration and spawning flows down Elk Falls Canyon.
These higher flows will be in place two days a week over nine weeks to benefit salmon spawning in the lower canyon up to Elk Falls.
The first flow runs now through to Thursday, September 15th, and continues each Tuesday to Thursday evening until November 10th.
The water flow in the canyon will increase from approx. 4 cubic metres per second to 7 cubic metres per second during the two-day migration flows.
Beginning the evening of September 22nd, the total Campbell River flow will increase anywhere from 40 to 80 cubic metres per second.
Temporary safety signage will be in place.
