The BC Salmon Farmers Association and its members are gearing up for a big day in Campbell River next week.
They’re hosting a community appreciation bbq at Robert Ostler Park Thursday, August 22.
The BBQ will include various engagement stations, including a Virtual Reality station to take a tour of a salmon farm, an Ask Us Anything booth, a Kid’s Zone which will include a craft area and a bouncy castle, a fun Photo Booth, an Aqua Guardians Station with the BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences, and a First Nations-Led Salmon Farming booth with the Coalition of First Nations for Finfish Stewardship.
They’ll be cooking up salmon on the grills.
The Association says the goal of the event is to show their appreciation for the employees, the business community, and the communities they all live and work in.
They’re also looking to raise awareness of the farming sector, which the Association says remains a vital part of the Vancouver Island and BC economy, food security, and climate action.
They’re also looking for volunteers.
It’s from 11:30am-3:30pm and admission’s by a suggested $5 minimum donation to the Campbell River Food Bank.
To RSVP and/or if you are interested in volunteering, contact planning leads, Michelle Franze at michelle@bcsalmonfarmers.ca or Brichelle Brucker at brichelle@bcsalmonfarmers.ca.
