Borehole drilling work along select sections of Comox Road begins Monday, as well as partial sections on roadways in the Town of Comox that have been identified for the sewer upgrade route.
The drilling work - expected to last three or four weeks - is the first phase of the Sewer Conveyance Project.
The CVRD says the drilling is a critical process to confirm the presence or absence of archaeological material within areas of high archaeological potential before the new pipes can be laid down.
Traffic disruptions will occur while roadways are reduced to single lane, alternating traffic during the week from Monday to Saturday from approximately 7:30 am to 6 pm.
Drilling will only be conducted in one roadway section at a time.
District CAO Russell Dyson says the work is an “important part of responsible stewardship of the land and will ensure we can mitigate any risk of encountering culturally significant materials during construction.”
