British Columbia’s heaviest pumpkin this year - hails from Campbell River.

Kerri van Kooten-Perras took home the top prize over the Thanksgiving weekend at the BC Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off in Langley.

Organizers call it  the ONLY world recognized giant pumpkin weigh-off event in Western Canada, with the next closest event being hosted in Manitoba.

Her Giant Atlantic Pumpkin, which she named Walter, came in at 1,152 pounds - beating the second place winner by about 130 pounds.

Yesterday, a Minnesota man set a world record in California for the heaviest pumpkin recorded - at 2,749 lbs.
