Campbell River has approved thousands of dollars’ worth of community grants.

Council has approved the Community Partnership Committee’s recommendation to award up to $714,600 in Community grants, nearly all of the $720,000 up for grabs, to subsidize rentals of recreation and culture facilities.

The grant supports several local organizations which contribute to the city’s arts and culture sector, including the Museum at Campbell River, the Campbell River And District Public Art Gallery, the Campbell River Arts Council, the Tidemark Theatre, Shoreline Musical Theatre Society, Campbell River Writers' Festival Society, and more.

The Maritime Heritage Centre was originally recommended for a grant as well, however, the City and the MHC have been in discussion about continuing to locate the Visitor Information Centre at the site.

Given those developments, Council approved a Core Operating Assistance Grant of up to $40,000 to assist with operations and help with creating a tourism destination.

A full-scale review of the City’s grants program is being conducted this year.

Highlights of the February 15, 2024, Council meeting are available at City of Campbell River.
