Two members of Campbell River Fire are heading to Edmonton later this month to represent BC in the Canadian Firefighters Curling Championships.
The BC team, which includes Campbell River Firefighters Dean Thulin (Skip) and Andy Stewart (Lead) won the BC Championships in February.
Other team members come from Kelowna and Summerland Fire Departments.
Thulin offered thanks to the Campbell River Firefighters Union 1668 and CR #2 Hall volunteers, who’ve provided donations to help the team with accommodations as they go for the top spot.
The Canadian FireFighters Curling Association is a national organization started as the result of the efforts of Vancouver firefighter Aubrey Neff.
Neff first organized a Vancouver Fire Department League and the British Columbia FireFighters Curling Association.
In 1958, he wrote to firefighters in every major city in Canada proposing his dream of a Dominion FireFighters Curling Championship.
It’s now holding its 63rd national championship. This year’s event is happening in Edmonton from March 21st to the 29th.
