The Campbell River Hospice Society is calling on the community to help with its annual holiday campaign.

The fundraiser was launched last week with an urgent goal of raising $60 thousand. They’ve managed about $20 thousand so far.

Executive Director Louise Daviduck says recent client surveys highlighted the deep and enduring impact of the ongoing drug crisis and sudden losses on the well-being of the community.

“The consequences have been heartbreaking, with an average of 83% of our clients seeking support for traumatic losses.
Behind these numbers are real people—individuals and families enduring unimaginable grief—turning to us as a lifeline for care, compassion, and hope,” she said.

Daviduck says the surveys serve as more than just feedback; they guide the society in ensuring that their care and services remain compassionate, high-quality, and adaptable to the evolving needs of our community.

In the past year alone, the society has provided 3,985 appointments to individuals and their families.

Daviduck says this past year has been especially challenging, with some of their fundraisers falling short of expectations.

Currently the hospice society is 55 percent behind its budgeted fundraising revenue for the year.

The Campbell River Hospice Society (CRHS) originated on December 5, 1986, as a non-profit organization to serve a need for psycho-social support and comfort care to those facing end-of-life or grieving the loss of a loved one in the community.

Their support network spans from Black Creek to Gold River and includes all smaller islands in between.

Donations can be made online, in person, or by phone.

A great way to help is to host your own fundraiser.

A few fun and creative ideas:

  • Office party: Incorporate giving to Hospice at your office Christmas party in honor of your staff or through a fun activity.
  • Host an auction: Gather homemade goods or crafts and hold an auction at your office Christmas party or family gathering.
  • Holiday games for a cause: Organize a festive game or challenge with your staff leading up to the holidays, with proceeds supporting hospice care.

Get creative, have some fun, and make an impact this holiday season.

Every effort brings the society closer to reaching their goal and ensures that compassionate care remains available to all who need it.
