The Campbell River Scouts are teaming with the Strathcona Regional District Emergency Communications Team for Scouts Canada's worldwide Jamboree-On-The-Air (JOTA) exercise this weekend.
It's an annual event when Scouts all over the world connect with each other by means of amateur radio.
The majority of activities during this exercise will take place at the Campbell River Search and Rescue Hall and at the Willow Point Park Trails, from 8am to 3pm on Saturday.
Jed Jackson with the 1st Willow Point Troop says the use of amateur radio techniques offers an extra educational dimension for Scouts.
There will be 14 Scouts from the Campbell River area participating.
SRD’s team of Amateur Radio Operators, who volunteer their time and expertise in the aid of emergency planning, response, and recovery efforts will be on hand for the Jamboree.
The Emergency Communications Team serves as a Plan B option when primary communications systems are challenged or disabled.
