The City of Campbell River has activated a warming centre at the Campbell River Community Centre again in response to the cold weather.
It opened Monday night, with doors open til 7am Tuesday morning.
It will open again Tuesday night at 10pm.
As this is a warming centre only, with funding provided by the Province through Emergency Management Climate Readiness, beds are not provided.
Important information:
- The Warming Centre is open to everyone for short-term stays.
- Visitors may bring pets on leashes and belongings, including bikes and carts. Hot drinks, snacks and seating will be available. However, beds will not be provided.
- The Warming Centre will be staffed by individuals with experience working with people experiencing homelessness so that necessary support is available.
- Notification of other upcoming Warming Centre activations and operating hours will be posted on the City’s website and social media channels ahead of time.
It’s intended to supplement overnight shelter beds and daytime services already available within the community, such as Kwesa Place, the Evergreen Centre, and the 40 temporary housing units with support services on Homewood Road provided by the City and BC Housing.
