More Canadian troops are heading overseas.
“Canada’s contribution to a NATO-led This is the way forward in modern defence," said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
"Almost a dozen countries from across NATO are co-operating, training and working alongside each other and learning valuable lessons from each other that make our collective defence stronger."
That’s alongside $2.6 billion in funding over three years.
He made the announcement in Riga on Monday at a joint press conference with Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, alongside Defence Minister Anita Anand.
The mission in Latvia is already Canada’s largest overseas mission with approximately 800 Canadian Armed Forces members part of the Canada-led battle group in the Baltic country.
Up to 2,200 soldiers will eventually be there for persistent deployment.
The PM also said Canada will help beef up critical weapon systems and is set to deploy additional surge personnel when needed.
