For the first time ever, all 13 of Canada’s Premiers are visiting Washington, D.C. as part of a joint mission aimed at strengthening Canada-U.S. relations.
Premier David Eby is there and said they’ll be involved in a series of meetings and events in the U.S. capital.
The trip was planned after Donald Trump announced he’d be slapping 25% tariffs on Canadian goods entering the U.S.
He agreed to put things on hold for a month after accepting a Canadian government proposal to beef up security at the border.
On Monday, he signed off on 25% tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum imports beginning March 12th.
Premiers will meet with key members of the Trump Administration, Congress and business leaders to advocate for maintaining strong Canada-U.S. relations by addressing shared issues such as jobs and the economy, energy, critical mineral supply chains, border security and immigration.
The U.S. sells more goods and services to Canada than it does to China, Japan, and Germany combined.
Our economic partnership is worth more than a trillion dollars annually and supports millions of jobs on both sides of the border.
The Council of the Federation comprises all 13 provincial and territorial Premiers.
It enables Premiers to work together, form closer ties, foster constructive relationships among governments, and show leadership on important issues that matter to Canadians.
