The Campbell River & District Chamber of Commerce has released a short statement concerning the cancellation of Tuesday night’s North Island - Powell River all-candidates debate.
The event was scheduled for earlier this month, then rescheduled to Tuesday.
However, the Chamber sent a release that day stating that the event had been cancelled.
The Chamber says the Board of Directors extends its “deepest apologies and regret” to the community over the cancellation, originally scheduled for April 6th.
After a special board meeting held yesterday to review the events, the statement said, it is the board's position that the actions taken by a specific board director or directors over the past several weeks - involving the postponement and ultimate cancellation - were not decisions of the remaining board directors or officially known to the board.
Some of the candidates were outside the Tidemark Theatre, where the debate was to be held, shortly before the scheduled start time to make statements and answer questions from residents.
The federal election takes place on Monday. Elections Canada says more than 7-million Canadians voted in advanced polls over the four-day Easter Weekend.
