Christmas Tree Chipping Fundraisers Taking Place This Weekend

By Jay Herrington

It's just about time to ditch that Christmas Tree.

Campbell River residents can drop off undecorated trees with local firefighters for their annual tree chipping event.

It’s happening at the Sportsplex this Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

Drop off a donation with your tree, and proceeds go to support the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund and local charities.

The Courtenay Volunteer Fire Department is also holding their annual Christmas Tree Collection & Chipping fundraiser this Saturday and Sunday at the Courtenay Fire Hall.

Trees again must have all decorations, tree stands & any plastics removed.

They’ll chip the trees for a minimum $5 donation, with proceeds benefiting various local charities.

It’s from 10am-4pm both days, drop trees at the Hall on Cumberland Road, East Courtenay Thrifty Foods, or call the fire department, at 250-334-2513, for at-home pickup, available for all areas served by the Courtenay Fire Department, including fire protection districts.

And Cumberland Fire Rescue will also hold a Christmas Tree Chipping Fundraiser Saturday, at Cumberland Fire Hall.

Bring your Christmas tree to be chipped for food or cash donations as all proceeds will be donated to Cumberland Food Share.

The event’s sponsored by Tree Craft, from 9am-2pm.
