The City of Campbell River Fire Department is hosting two public education events this month, starting this weekend, at the #1 Fire Station on 13th Avenue.

The first, on Wildfire Preparedness Day, Sunday from 11am to 3pm.

This City says the free event is a great opportunity to learn more about the threats of wildfire and get tips to help you and your neighbours “FireSmart” your homes and reduce wildfire risks.

“Wildfire preparedness has become increasingly important in British Columbia,” says Shawn Hall, FireSmart Coordinator.

“FireSmart principles have shown that they are effective at reducing the risk to life and property in the most extreme wildfire conditions and we are excited to welcome residents to Fire Hall #1 to show them around and share this important information.”

The Fire Hall Open House is happening Saturday, May 11th, from 10am to 2pm, where residents will find more information - and a few more activities including practicing your aim with a fire hose or trying out some of the hydraulic power tools - or - take a lift high in the sky in the tower truck.

For more information visit City of Campbell River and for FireSmart information, visit Campbell River Fire Smart.
