New collection and recycling carts are soon going to be in service in the Comox Valley.

Between January 15 and February 2, City of Courtenay residents who do not want to or are not able to repurpose their used collection containers can donate them.

The city says the initiative was launched as a response to residents that expressed interest during the automated cart delivery period.

City residents will have three opportunities to set out their clean, used garbage, recycling and/or organics containers for pickup at curbside the day of their regularly scheduled collection by placing the old containers behind the automated carts.

But make sure they’re clean.

Frequently asked questions regarding the new automated curbside collection service can be found at City of Courtenay.

Another option is to drop your old container at Public Works on McKenzie Ave – from January 15 to February 10 - where residents can also pick up used containers for themselves.

Town of Comox residents will be able to drop their used carts off - or find some to repurpose - at the west parking lot of Comox Marina Park, near the boat launch, between January 6th and 13th.

At the end of the campaigns, any remaining containers will be shipped to Merlin Plastics for recycling.
