The Coldest Night Of The Year fundraiser has been going virtually across the country throughout the month of February and this Saturday, the in-person events will take place in our listening area.
Heather Ney, Executive Director of the Comox Valley Transition Society, says part of the funds raised will go towards the completion of Darry’s Place, a new 40-unit apartment building that will open in April to house women and children who are fleeing violence.
Ney says this year's proceeds will also benefit Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society, a Comox Valley homegrown solution to homelessness in the Comox Valley.
The Comox Valley event raised over $195,000 last year, for Dawn to Dawn and the Transition Society, and Nay says their goal this year is $200,000.
In Campbell River, Economic Development Coordinator with the Campbell River and North Island Transition Society, Diane Palmer, says proceeds will go towards Eagle Harbour, a safe haven that will help women and children fleeing abusive relationships.
There are 2 and 5 kilometre walk options, and events will take place in and around Rose Harbour in Campbell River and around the Native Sons Hall in Courtenay.
