There's a lot to take in this Victoria Day long weekend.

The 136th Victoria Day Celebrations in Cumberland will feature a fashion show & tea, garage sale, Village Market Days, the Soap Box Derby, the Cumberland Crusher team fitness competition, a Family Dance, live entertainment, sports events, kids activities, the Victoria Day parade, a beer garden & much more.

Transit is free in the Comox Valley on Victoria Day.

BC Transit and the Comox Valley Regional District are offering free rides on Monday.

Buses will be running on a Saturday schedule.

To learn more, visit BC Transit.

The Cumberland Community Schools Society’s annual Thunderballs fundraiser is returning to Dunsmuir Ave. on Monday, right before the parade.

The lottery involves releasing 4,000 golf balls to roll down the street in a race to win one of 20 prizes, including a round trip flight for two with WestJet.

Other prizes include cash, mini-vacations, festival tickets, local food gift cards, and more.

Proceeds from the event support the Cumberland Community Schools Society, a registered charity that provides healthy meals and food hampers to residents facing food insecurity, along with barrier free recreational programs.

Thunderballs is the Society’s biggest fundraiser and plays a vital role in funding operations.

Sue Loveless, Executive Director, says they’ve seen a significant increase in demand for their services over the past year.

Their goal is to raise $55,000 through Thunderballs sponsorships and ticket sales.

Thunderballs tickets are 1 for $10, or 5 for $40 and available from CCSS staff and board members, Moon’s Records, Seeds Food Market, Alley Cuts Salon, and the Hyland Precast office.
