Comox Valley Search and Rescue has taken in a big haul of funding, as it works on raising money for a new home.

Their lease is up, and they are looking for a new place to hang their gear - either by purchasing an existing building or building new - at a cost of about $1,500,000.

The team held an online auction, which wrapped up on Friday, and they’ve raised close to $15,000.

Auction items need to be picked up at the hall on Moray Ave in Courtenay by Monday.

Comox Search and Rescue is a 100% volunteer organization, on call 24x7, 365 days a year, providing a wide range of search and rescue services.

Its operating area ranges from Oyster River in the north to Cook Creek in the south and from Buttle Lake in the west to the Georgia Strait in the east, including Denman and Hornby Islands.

The team also works closely with other Search and Rescue groups to provide mutual aid to communities across the province.

During the 2021 calendar year, Comox Valley Search and Rescue had 76 requests for assistance.
