Charges likely after Comox Valley RCMP arrested a 32-year old on firearms related offences.
On May 25th, police responded to multiple 911-calls reporting shots fired in the area of Cliffe Ave., Kilpatrick Ave., and Fitzgerald Ave., in Courtenay.
Officers quickly determined that the shots had likely come from Bill Moore Park. They found and seized various shotgun parts and spent shells during a search - but no suspect.
“During a systematic search of the park, no suspect(s) were located; however, officers found and seized various shotgun parts and spent shells,” said RCMP in a media release.
“This incident is a stark reminder of the danger posed by reckless and dangerous use of firearms,” said Constable Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP.
Terragni says the evidence at the scene suggests the shots were fired into the trees, and considering the nearby trails, is deeply concerning.
The Street Crimes Unit, Bike Unit, and Frontline officers gathered additional evidence and identified a suspect.
A 32-year old Comox Valley man has been arrested and charges are being recommended.
RCMP are thanking those who called and reported the shots fired and who assisted as officers gathered evidence in the area.
