As the Wounded Warrior Run BC makes its way to Comox today, so too does a member of the Comox Valley RCMP.
Constable Paul Jones, currently attached to the Street Crimes Unit, is part of the team running the length of Vancouver Island to raise awareness and funds for mental health programs supporting veterans, first responders, and their families.
The 23 year RCMP veteran has served in Ontario, Vancouver, and Surrey as a drug investigator, in a Serious Crime Unit, and on the front lines of some of BC’s most challenging communities, witnessing firsthand the mental and physical tolls of the job.
Constable Jones has a twin brother who is a firefighter, and he says he’s seen how the demands on public service affect not just the individual, but their loved ones as well.
Officer in Charge of the Comox Valley RCMP, Inspector Scott Mercer, commended Constable Jones’ commitment, noting that policing is about service, and that extends beyond the uniform.
The run, he says, is not only a physical and mental challenge but a meaningful way to support first responders and military personnel who have sacrificed so much.
All money raised on Vancouver Island stays on Vancouver Island.
