The Comox Valley Regional District has acquired the Fanny Bay Senior Society Hall to allow for its continued use as a community facility and enable future service possibilities.
“We are excited to announce this land purchase, after the Fanny Bay community organized a fundraiser and approached the CVRD to secure this piece of land as a public asset”, explains Electoral Area A Director Daniel Arbour.
“There is a lack of publicly owned lands in the southern portion of the Comox Valley, and the property is in a key location at the corner of Ships Point Road and Highway 19A. I am excited about current and future possibilities for this land and Fanny Bay residents.”
The hall will remain an active community hall under the day-to-day operation of the Fanny Bay Senior Society.
Joan Johnsen, President of the Fanny Bay Senior Society, says they’re happy with the partnership and incredibly grateful to the community for donations that allowed the purchase to go forward.
The Society and community fundraised $47,000 to be put towards the purchase of the property.
The remaining funds needed to complete the purchase will be borrowed by the CVRD with the loan being repaid within five years.
