The rent has gone up for Comox Valley Search and Rescue as the team continues to try to raise funds for a new building.
In a tweet, CVSAR said it ‘’was rocked last week with the news of a 25% increase in its annual lease.’’
It went on to say that they are presently the only team on Vancouver Island not housed on municipal land and paying significant lease rates and taxes.
For years, volunteers have rented commercial facilities throughout the Comox Valley to house their equipment and vehicles.
For the past twenty-five years operations have been based at 3001 Moray Avenue.
They are looking for a permanent future site for operations, either from their current location or a new build within Comox Valley.
Their lease on Moray Ave ends this year.
Comox Valley SAR says it started setting aside funds three years ago towards the project as they work toward their goal of raising $1.5 million.
They’ve raised $600-thousand and also have a commitment from the regional district for $100 thousand a year for five years.
