The Comox Youth Council is celebrating, having been recognized with the prestigious #YouRock Award at the 50th Annual 2024 Comox Valley Chamber Awards.
Sponsored by the North Island College (NIC) Department of Business Administration, the #YouRock Award celebrates youth leadership, ingenuity, and initiative through meaningful contributions to the community.
In a release, the Town says the Comox Youth Council is an inspiring example of youth coming together to make a positive difference.
Providing a welcoming and inclusive space for youth to connect, collaborate, and grow, the Town says the council empowers members to hone their leadership skills while working in a team environment to plan and host community-focused events.
“This recognition showcases the incredible passion, creativity and dedication to community building from our youth,” said the Town’s Mayor, Nicole Minions.
“We couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments – this is such a well-deserved award for this group of young leaders. I was so proud to hear the Comox Youth Council name announced at the recent Chamber awards.”
The Town notes the Council’s contributions range from planning and delivering the Halloween Haunted Hallway, to family movie nights and participation in the Comox Business in Action Summer Fest.
Their next event is the Comox Youth Art & Media Exhibit, which will be held on Friday, February 28th with art displayed at the Comox Community Centre for an entire month.
The Comox Youth Council operates out of the Comox Community Centre on Wednesday nights from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m.
