Comox Valley residents may enjoy a free pizza Friday night, if their smoke alarm is working.

Domino’s Pizza and the Courtenay and Comox fire departments are partnering tonight in a campaign aimed at making sure smoke alarms are in good working order.

Comox and Courtenay residents in single residential homes, duplexes and townhouses can call Domino’s on Ryan Road in Courtenay and at the Comox Mall between 5pm and 9pm to place their order - and the pies could be delivered with the help of Comox or Courtenay fire fighters.

Firefighters will be making deliveries with their firetruck and will conduct a quick inspection of household smoke alarms - those with working alarms will get their pizza for free, while crews will top up the batteries in non-working units or make arrangements to come back and replace alarms if necessary.

It’s all part of Fire Prevention Week, which is winding down.

The Domino's on Ryan Road in Courtenay and at the Comox Mall are participating.

There will also be an open house at the Comox fire station (1870 Noel Avenue), on Saturday, October 14, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

This year’s national campaign focuses on cooking safety and the important actions residents can take to keep everyone in the house safe.
