Courtenay City Council has called for the immediate resignation of Councillor David Frisch and has unanimously voted in favour of imposing a number of sanction measures for the remainder of his term.
Frisch was charged with assault after an incident earlier this year and agreed to a lesser offence of fear of injury or damage.
He was ordered to pay a $500 peace bond which requires people to abide by certain conditions.
He was placed on mandatory leave as the charges were being dealt with and had then informed council he was going on medical leave and would return to his council duties in April.
Now, council has unanimously resolved to censure Frisch.
The decision, according to a release from the City, reflects a loss of confidence in his ability to represent the City based on his conduct, and in strong disagreement of his decision to remain on City Council at this time.
In addition to the motion of censure, Council has also sanctioned Frisch by removing him from the acting mayor rotation, committees, commissions, boards and any other appointments.
Council also resolved to issue this public notification and to formally request that Councillor Frisch resign from office.
