The BC prosecution service has announced that no charges will be laid against three Campbell River RCMP officers involved in the fatal shooting of Jarred Lowndes nearly three years ago.
The Indigenous man died after police opened fire in the parking lot of the Willow Point Tim Hortons on July 8th, 2021.
A police dog was also killed in the incident and the dog’s handler was injured.
The Independent Investigations Office determined that there were reasonable grounds to believe the officers may have committed offence and submitted a report to the BCPS.
Prosecutors have concluded that the available evidence doesn’t meet its “charge assessment standard,” and is “not able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the officers committed any offence in relation to the incident.”
As a result, no charges have been approved.
Lowndes’ mother, Laura Holland, said yesterday she won’t be letting the case go.
