Monday is the last day for Cumberland residents to offer input on the village’s Official Community Plan.

The Official Community Plan covers residential growth, where additional lands should be designated for commercial uses, what greenspaces should be protected, and how the Village can best support heritage, arts and culture, and food security, over the next 20 years.

There are a pair of surveys which take about 15 minutes each to complete.

Survey 1 asks questions related to residential and commercial land use and growth, heritage protection, housing, the local economy, and arts and culture.

Survey 2 questions focus on industrial and agricultural land use, the interchange lands, environmental protection, social inclusion and equity, and food security.

The Cumberland OCP lays out the long-term vision, goals and actions to guide growth and change in the community over 10 years and beyond.

It also sets priorities for housing, climate change, economic development, transportation and mobility, infrastructure, heritage protection, arts and culture, food systems, parks and recreation, environmental protection and overall community well-being.

Survey results will be presented to Council with recommendations in September.

A final round of public engagement is planned for mid fall.

Find the survey at Engage Comox Valley.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
