The Village of Cumberland is officially closing the RV Sani Station on Dunsmuir Avenue on April 8th.
The closure comes following concerns about increased loading on the Village’s wastewater treatment system. Currently the Cumberland system is out of compliance with the provincial requirements of its operating permit.
The plant is being upgraded to comply with the existing permit and meet future regulatory requirements along with the expected community growth.
The Village says there have been significant impacts on the wastewater treatment system from the RV Sani-Station due to lack of control over both how much and what is being dumped.
The Sani-Station has seen increased usage since becoming the only dump station available between Miracle Beach Provincial Park and Parksville, following the closure of other facilities.
The Village says it is in contact with Comox Valley Regional District in the hopes that a new RV Sani-Station will be opened in a suitable location in the Comox Valley.
