Today is the National Day of Mourning, honouring workers who have been killed, injured, or suffered from work-related illness.

Last year, 146 BC workers died from a workplace injury or disease.

A Day of Mourning ceremony and moment of silence is happening today at the Simms Park Pavilion, hosted by the City of Courtenay, WorkSafeBC, Comox Valley Transition Society, and CUPE 556. It starts at 10am.

The Day of Mourning, first recognized by the Canadian Labour Congress in 1984, has been a national event since 1991.
