Premier David Eby and Canada’s other premiers are meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney.
This comes after US President Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs on several more nations.
Canada wasn’t hit with any new tariffs as part of the announcement, but Trump is going ahead with previously announced 25 per cent tariffs on automobile imports, on top of tariffs on steel and aluminum.
The Prime Minister noted the US also says there will be additional tariffs in so-called strategic sectors like lumber and pharmaceuticals.
Carney said Canada will act with purpose and force.
“My government will fight U.S. tariffs, protect Canadian workers and industries, and build the strongest economy in the G7,” he said before meeting with cabinet members.
Thursday’s meeting with the premiers is virtual as the group looks to work out a united, “Canada First” front in response.
