It is the Family Day Weekend - a four day weekend for students in Campbell River and Comox Valley Schools as Tuesday is a Pro-D day.
A reminder as well that waste won’t be picked up on Monday, with collection shifting by one day for the rest of the week.
There is a lot going on in the region on the holiday Monday, including at the Sportsplex in Campbell River for free activities for all ages, including access to the P.L.A.Y. gym, court sports, disc golf, the weight room, and face painting.
There’s also a pancake breakfast hosted by the Kinsmen Club.
It runs from 9am to 1pm at the Sportsplex.
In Courtenay, an all ages celebration at the Lewis Centre from 11a.m. – 3 p.m.
The whole facility will be dedicated to families, with family gymnastics and family archery offered in sessions throughout the day.
Family archery is for 7 years and over only.
There will also be a game zone with things like giant Jenga, Connect Four and more.
The City is looking for volunteers as well to help out with events - you can find more info at courtenay.ca/volunteer
There’s also a free community event at the Comox Community Centre from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., with activities for all ages.
The day’s activities include free face painting, an inflatable obstacle course, open gym time, arts and crafts, board games, and story time. Some special highlights include an Axe Capoeira performance and lesson (Brazilian martial arts that blends music, dance and acrobatics), a try-it 25-minute squash lesson for the whole family, and the Seniors’ Intergenerational Action Network will be hosting the storytelling.
Comox Fire Rescue will also be onsite with a fire truck, so that families can tour, ask questions and take a photo.
