
The Liberal Party has won its fourth consecutive mandate.
Mark Carney’s Liberals secured enough votes in yesterday’s election to lead government, but it was still too close to tell if it would be a majority or minority government.
Conservative Aaron Gunn won in North Island-Powell River while Liberal Gord Johns held on to his seat in Courtenay-Alberni.
The Green Party’s Elizabeth May held onto her Saanich-Gulf Islands seat.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and the NDP’s Jagmeet Singh both lost their own ridings - in Ottawa and Vancouver. Poilievre says he’ll stay on as leader.
Singh announced he will step down as party leader until a replacement is chosen.
While the Conservatives gained seats this time around, the NDP is in danger of losing official party status.
