BC Wildfire is set to ban Category Two and Category Three open fires in two locations in the province starting next week.
Fires in the Prince George and Cariboo fire centres will be in effect as of noon next Thursday, March 28th.
Fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels, burn cages of any size and binary exploding targets are all prohibited, but small campfires are still being allowed.
BC Wildfire says it is preparing for wildfires earlier than ever – and that includes expanding the hiring window for new wildland firefighters, to March 31st - with more than 2-thousand applicants already in.

The current long-range forecasts suggest a high potential for an active spring wildfire season in British Columbia.
Once fuels and forests are snow-free, elevated fire activity is anticipated this spring, which is common.
The snowpack is about 66 percent of normal across British Columbia.
The low snowpack will limit surface runoff and stream flows, which could limit drought recovery into summer 2024.
