Saturday officially marks the first day of winter, in spite of how warm it has been.
The winter season officially arrives at 7:21 a.m. PST.
In anticipation of a series of storm events, BC Hydro will increase its release from the Comox Dam until January 2nd.
This increased spill magnitude presents dangerous conditions along all sections of the Puntledge River.
Danger signage is in place highlighting the risk.
So far for the month of December, inflows into the reservoir have been 70% of normal but the forecast for the next 7-10 days are trending above normal.
Inflows are expected to increase over the week and peak this weekend.
The Comox Lake Reservoir level is currently at approximately 133.4 metres above sea level and is expected to rise.
The increased water release from the Comox Dam helps manage the reservoir level and maintain operational flexibility for flood risk management during storm season.
