The Town of Comox is reaching out to residents for their input in shaping the first-ever five-year Economic Development Strategy.

The initiative centres on job creation, the attraction of new investments, and the support and growth of existing businesses.

Consultations began last fall, including interviews with community and business leaders, and meetings and workshops with local groups.

Residents can take part in a survey focused on potential areas for growth and development, at www.comox.ca until February 26th.

Comox Mayor Nicole Minions says they want the Economic Development Strategy to embrace big ideas that will set the community apart as they look to the future.

“We also need to focus on actions that will support our ambitious vision for the future. The feedback provided through the survey will help guide this direction,” she said.

The strategy has a strong focus on three key pillars, including a focus on what distinguishes Comox and attracts investments, such as the marina, airport, and downtown areas.

It also looks at the expansion of local businesses, and explores the potential of industrial land for job creation.

The Town says initial data highlights the importance of the defence industry and service-centred developments, as evident in the presence of healthcare, retail and food, and education sectors in the Comox Valley.

TheStrategy is scheduled for completion this spring.
