It is International Women’s Day and the community is invited to celebrate with a free evening workshop at the Comox Community Centre.

The goal is to raise awareness on topics such as gender bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

Deb Roger is facilitating the event - her twenty-year career with the RCMP will allow attendees to tap into her knowledge and experiences of the potential scenarios women may face – at work, home, or in the community.

International Women’s Day is recognized globally and celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

Town of Comox Recreation Programmer, Heather Bailey, says the workshop can empower the community to accelerate social change at a local level, adding that everyone is invited to attend, "to gain insight, learn from experiences, support each other and the challenges women face regarding gender equity.”

Register on line at International Women's Day Workshop or call the Comox community Centre at 250-339-2255. Donations of gently worn clothing and cash for the Comox Valley Transition Society will be accepted at the workshop.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
