Following the stabbing of a good Samaritan over the weekend, an online fundraiser has been launched.
Colin Dube-Wheat, 21, was walking home in the early hours of Friday, July 14, when he heard someone calling for help.
As Dube-Wheat approached the area, an individual beside an unconscious person stabbed him in the chest twice, puncturing his lung and heart.
Dube-Wheat was left laying alone until first responders attended and had him airlifted to Victoria.
“The VGH Trauma Team performed open heart surgery and repaired the injuries to his heart and lungs, and he is now in the early days of what will be a long recovery period,” says Jen Fyfe, the victim’s cousin,
on a GoFundMe page organized following the incident.
“We, the family of Colin, are thankful to the first responders and medical teams in both Campbell River and Victoria for saving his life.”
Fyfe says Dube-Wheat has a fiancé and young daughter, and that she’s worried how they will manage with both having to be off work, they work and rent in Campbell River.
As of this writing, Monday, July 24, 2023, more than $14,600 has been raised from 172 donors.
Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact the Campbell River RCMP.
The community is welcome to contribute to the GoFundMe.
