The federal government is spending $426 million as part of two bilateral agreements to support British Columbia’s health care system.
More than $230 million will be invested over the next five years to help pay for nearly 13,000 Health Care Assistants working in publicly funded long-term care and assisted living facilities.
The Province says HCAs have long provided essential supports for Canadians to live and age with dignity and was especially demonstrated through during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The money, the Province says, will be able to improve recruitment and retention, by ensuring workers have better wages and benefits.
In addition, the feds will provide $194 million to improve access to drugs for rare diseases, early diagnosis, and screening, starting with the funding to support the province in providing access to two drugs under the National Strategy for Rare Diseases.
