It looks like we'll be dealing with wintery weather for at least six more weeks - according to the Groundhogs.

Most of Canada’s and, one of America’s beloved weather prognosticators - including Van Isle Violet - saw their shadows yesterday, Groundhog Day, meaning wintery weather will last well into March, if you believe the lore.

Van Isle Violet, out of the Mount Washington’s Marmot Recovery Centre, Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam and Lucy the Lobster, Quebec’s Fred La Marmotte and Punxsutanwney Phil in Philadelphia were all in agreement on a longer winter.

Ontario’s Wiarton Willy, Manitoba Merv, and Balzac Billy in Alberta all said we’re looking at an early Spring.

It should be noted that Van Isle Violet has only been on the job since 2022. She hasn’t been wrong yet.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
