Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North fifth annual Bid to Build Online Auction is nearing a close.
The fundraiser aims to collect cash to construct safe and affordable homes for local families in need.
Until Wednesday, June 19, 2024, you can bid on over 150 items, including from WestJet Gift and Air North Flight, gift cards, experiences, and getaways donated by local businesses and professionals.
Proceeds will support upfront development costs for Habitat's upcoming project at 461 Hilchey Road in Campbell River, as well as refurbishments for previous Habitat homeowners' homes, enabling the organization to serve more families in Vancouver Island North.
Since its inception in 2020, #BidtoBuild has been what organizers call a beacon of hope, raising much-needed funds, especially during the challenges of the pandemic. Last year alone, they raised $36,000.
The goal this year is $30,000 and they’ve already raised more than $22,000.
Habitat points to the completion of their 12-home project on Piercy Avenue in Courtenay as seeing firsthand the transformative power of community and collaboration.
Stefano Tromba, Director of Fundraising and Communications, says the auction’s success is due solely to the generosity of local community business owners and individuals who have stepped up.
“Their participation by donating items and sponsoring our efforts helps our mission to build safe, affordable homes; we are immensely grateful for that support to make this event a success.”
Bidders can expect gift cards for local restaurants and businesses, tools, artwork, gift baskets, and experiences, including a Whale and Wildlife Zodiac Tour donated by Campbell River Whale Watching and other getaways across the island.
Winning items will be available for pick directly from our donors or from the Comox Valley and Campbell River ReStores once the auction closes.
The auction will close at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 19th.
