Environment Canada has extended its Heat Warning into Courtenay and Campbell River as we work through another hot couple of days.

Environment Canada has extended its Heat Warning into Courtenay and Campbell River as we work through another hot couple of days.

A ridge of high pressure and a warmer airmass will give a couple of hot days this week.

Daytime highs 29 to 34 degrees and overnight lows 15 to 17 degrees.

Cooler temperatures are expected Friday and into the weekend.

Environment Canada and local Medical Health Officers expect an increase in health and safety risks from heat and are advising the public to take precautions.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.
