Cooling Centres continue to pop up throughout the area.
In Courtenay, a wellness check station has opened at Simms Millennium Park offering up water, snacks, and other support. It will be running daily from 1pm to 8pm through Friday.
As well, the Florence Filberg Centre Conference Hall will be available as a drop-in cooling centre from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m daily while the heat warning is in effect.
Hours at the Rotary Water Park at Lewis Park have also been extended, 9am to 8pm daily.
Campbell River has extended the opening hours of the Centennial Outdoor Pool and the Willow Point splash park until 9 p.m. through to the end of Sunday.
The risks of extreme heat are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
In addition to the heat, an air quality advisory has been issued for the eastern parts of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
High concentrations of ground-level ozone could pose a health risk for some people.
The highest temperature recorded yesterday in the province, according to Environment Canada, was in Lytton where the mercury hit 38.8 Celsius.
The fire burning about two kilometres northwest of Lytton has now grown to more than 2,300 hectares.
