Homalco First Nation has declared a state of emergency in response to the escalating opioid crisis affecting the community.
In a statement, Chief Darren Blaney noted the community has lost four youths to toxic drugs in the last six months.
Calling it a critical decision, the Nation says it underscores the urgent need for collective action and support to address the devastating impact of opioids on the health and well-being of members.
Chief and Council are inviting community members to join them on Friday night at Homalco Hall (from 5-7pm).
Note that it is for community members only.
The meeting will serve as a platform to discuss the current situation, share information, and develop strategies to combat the crisis.
It will include an open forum where Chief and Council will be available to answer questions.
The Nation says it is an opportunity for people to voice their concerns, share experiences, and contribute to the dialogue on how everyone can support one another during this challenging time.
The opioid crisis, the Nation says, is a complex issue that requires a concerted effort from all stakeholders, including individuals, families, health professionals, and government bodies.
It is urging everyone to come together to support affected individuals and families and to explore effective prevention and treatment options.
