Homalco Wildlife & Cultural Tours and Klahoose Coastal Adventures have announced a new partnership, emphasizing the importance of supporting Indigenous-led initiatives fostering cultural resurgence, environmental sustainability, and economic independence.
In a release, the two say they are committed to promoting sustainable tourism and preserving cultural heritage for generations to come.
The collaboration introduces a new tour: “Toba Bears & Wilderness Tour,” departing from Campbell River. Offered through Homalco Wildlife & Cultural Tours, they will operate daily from late August to late October, when the salmon return to Toba Inlet. From there, Klahoose Coastal Adventures will guide guests for “an immersive wildlife viewing experience in Toba Inlet, watching grizzly bears in their natural habitat.”
Homalco Wildlife & Cultural Tours is an Indigenous social enterprise dedicated to Cultural Revitalization, Conservation & Regeneration, Career Development, and Economic Independence.
For over two decades, the organization has led groups through the awe-inspiring Bute Inlet and along the Orford River, renowned for its thriving grizzly bear populations during the salmon run.
Alongside its award-winning eco retreat, Klahoose Wilderness Resort, proudly 100% owned by the Klahoose Nation, Klahoose Coastal Adventures
has operated since 2016 in the Toba Valley, offering grizzly bear tours that provide safe, land-based viewing along a remote wilderness river in the heart of Klahoose Territory.
As Homalco and Klahoose rekindle their historical bonds, they two say they stand as beacons of collaboration, unity, and Indigenous resilience.
Together, they say their efforts not only contribute to the economic development of their communities but also champion cultural preservation, environmental stewardship, and reconciliation through travel.
