The Comox Valley Regional District is looking for volunteers to assist during an emergency or disaster.
It’s looking for volunteer radio operators with the Comox Valley Emergency Program (CVEP) and is offering an amateur radio course in March.
In a release, the CVRD asks residents to imagine a situation where you’re experiencing a major disaster and there’s no phone service or power. It may be difficult to know what to do in those situations, but as a volunteer emergency radio operator with CVEP you will have the necessary skills and knowledge to respond.
Howie Siemens, Manager of Emergency Programs for the CVRD, says it's a great opportunity to become involved in the community and undress the basics of radio communications and the use of amateur radio.
He adds they’d also like to hear from those who already use amateur/ham radio and have experience.
You can join the Emergency Radio Communication Team for a four-day amateur radio course happening every Sunday in March, starting March 5, 2023.
To register, email info@comoxvalleyep.ca, or call 250-334-6044 to speak to an emergency program representative.
