It’s the deadline day to get applications in for Island Health’s Community Wellness Program.
The grants provide the opportunity for not-for-profit organizations, local governments, and Indigenous Nations and groups to apply for one-time funding for community-led wellness projects that reduce barriers and increase supports, enabling all members of the community to enjoy health and wellness.
The focus of this year’s cycle is community resilience, promoting connected, diverse, safe, active, and nourished communities.
Projects need to address one of a number of goals, from advancing diversity in the community, building community gardens, and working toward violence and domestic abuse prevention, to active transportation, food security and connection and access to nature.
Community wellness grants can be used to fund a new project or a continuing project in need of one-time funding.
All projects must be based in and primarily serve communities in the Island Health region.
With about $800-thousand total to dole out, Island Health notes that the grant program is highly competitive and always receives far more applications than it can fund.
