It’s deadline day for Liberals who want to head up the party.
A new leader will be selected on March 9th and today is the deadline for leadership candidates to submit their names - and a $50-thousand deposit.
Justin Trudeau announced earlier this month that he was stepping down as leader and prime minister as soon as a replacement is found.
As of Thursday former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney, former finance minister Chrystia Freeland and Ottawa MP Chandra Arya confirmed that they had submitted the required documents and initial $50,000 deposit to the party.
Several others have indicated an intention to do so, including former house leader Karina Gould, Nova Scotia MP Jaime Battiste, and former MPs Frank Baylis and Ruby Dhalla.
Freeland, and Carney are considered the front-runners in the race.
Potential voters need to be signed up by January 27th in order to vote.
